Early-Season Heat Wave Grips Much of Western U.S.

Though astronomical summer does not begin until June 21st, much of the western United States is being subjected to record-breaking heat this week. As usual, Death Valley, California is continuing to be the hottest spot, with high temperatures expected to reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday. Palm Springs isn’t expected to be much cooler, with high temperatures near 114 degrees are expected.

But even normally-cooler spots have not been immune to the searing heat. San Francisco International Airport reached 100 degrees Sunday, making it the first time the airport has ever reached 100 degrees in the month of June. Monday was also only the 7th time the airport has ever reached 100 degrees.
