Delaware Hit by Strongest Tornado in 15 Years
As the calendar inches closer to summer, thunderstorm season is already in full-swing across much of the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Severe thunderstorms brought wind gusts in excess of 60 mph to parts of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia before dawn Monday morning. These winds knocked down numerous trees and power lines, knocking out power to thousands of customers.
But the most damaging weather event on Monday was an EF-2 Tornado that struck the towns of Laurel and Seaford in Delaware. Fortunately, no lives were lost, but one person suffered minor injuries and three people had to be pulled from a house where a tree fell on it. The tornado was the strongest in the state since 2004.

Unfortunately for the Mid-Atlantic, more strong to severe thunderstorms are expected Friday night into early Saturday with another strong low pressure system tracking to the west of the area.
