Halloween Storm Brings Spooky Weather to New England
Just in time for Halloween, Mother Nature delivered some frightening weather to New England. Heavy rain, strong winds, and even some coastal flooding battered the region on Halloween Night and into the early morning hours of November 1st.
Over four inches of rain fell in parts of Vermont while wind gusts over 60 mph were recorded over parts of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. More than 300,000 customers were without power last Friday morning in New England, including over 80,000 in Connecticut alone. The scary weather prompted several towns to postpone trick-or-treating. Numerous schools were either closed or had delayed openings last Friday.

Mass transit was also severely disrupted by the storm. In Connecticut, train service was suspended on parts of Metro North’s New Haven Line last Friday morning due to wire damage. An Amtrak train was stopped near New Haven for seven hours due to the damage. Meanwhile, near Boston, a portion of the MBTA’s Green Line D Branch was shut down due to a fallen tree. Service on all lines was fully restored by Friday afternoon.
