Wildfires Continue to Ravage California
While much of the eastern United States is dealing with heavy rain and flooding, it is a much different story in the western States. There, heat, drought, and wildfires continue to dominate the headlines. California is currently in the midst of its worst wildfire year on record, with dozens of lives lost and over 10,000 structures destroyed since last October. The Carr fire in Northern California has wrecked the most havoc, as it has burned through more than 112,000 acres of land and is responsible for the deaths of six people. As of the early morning on August 1st, the fire is still just 30 percent contained.

The unusual heat seen recently has only compounded the wildfire issue over California. Redding, CA, located near the Carr fire, finished July 4.5 degrees warmer than normal, including a high of 113 degrees on July 26th. No relief from the heat is expected anytime soon, as temperatures in Redding are expected to be near or over 100 degrees for the next week.
