Heavy Rain, Flooding, Force Closure of Hersheypark
After a very dry start to the month of July across the northeastern United States, mother nature has opened up the water faucet. High pressure over the western Atlantic Ocean and a nearly stationary cold front west of the Appalachians have produced days of showers and thunderstorms thanks to a moist southerly flow. The heaviest rainfall has fallen in places such as central Pennsylvania, with Hanover, PA receiving 9.50” since Sunday, July 22nd. The rainfall has also caused Hersheypark to be closed since Tuesday, July 24th. Nearby Middletown, PA picked up 8.67” of rainfall since Sunday.
