New York City Baseball Games Postponed Due to Snow
The calendar may read April, but Mother Nature didn’t get the memo in the Northeastern United States, as a winter-like storm hit the area Monday morning. New York City and surrounding areas were especially hard hit, as snow fell at a rate of two inches per hour during the morning rush hour. By the time the storm finished up, Central Park measured 5.5 inches of snow, which was its largest April snowstorm since 1982 and its eighth-largest ever for the month of April. The snow forced the postponement of the Yankees’ home opener as well as the Mets game scheduled for Monday evening. Monday marked the first time a New York City baseball game was postponed due to snow since 2003.

Other areas nearby reported even more snowfall. White Plains, NY hit the snow jackpot of the New York City area with 7.8 inches of snow, while nearby New Canaan, CT measured 7.5 inches of snow. However, the highest total in the northeastern states came from Tobyhanna, PA, where 9.0 inches of snow were measured.
