Powerful Nor’Easter Impacting Northeast Today Through Saturday

A major late-season winter storm is in the process of lashing the northeastern United States.  Heavy rain, heavy snow, high winds, and coastal flooding are all expected with this system today, tonight, and tomorrow.  Rainfall amounts of one to three inches with locally higher amounts are expected in coastal areas where temperatures will be too warm for snow.  Across higher elevations of Upstate New York, widespread snowfall totals of over one foot are expected with some locations potentially receiving snowfall in excess of two feet.

Winds and coastal flooding are expected to be the main story with this storm, though.  Moderate to perhaps major coastal flooding is expected along the coast in eastern New England.  In addition, wind gusts of over 70 mph are possible at times there.  This led Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker to activate the National Guard in Massachusetts for this storm.
