Rare Late-Season Tornadoes Strike Rhode Island and Massachusetts
Just 8 days before Halloween, the weather turned spooky in parts of eastern New England on Tuesday, as two tornadoes and a waterspout touched down in the region. The first tornado touchdown occurred in North Providence, Rhode Island, and was classified as an EF-1 by the National Weather Service. Numerous trees were uprooted and shingles were blown off of roofs in the area. Though the tornado lifted once it reached nearby Lincoln, RI, the same cell produced another EF-1 tornado in Norton, Massachusetts. It was just the sixth tornado that touched down in Massachusetts during the month of October since 1955. Earlier in The day, a waterspout formed near the north end of the Cape Cod Canal in Massachusetts, the first in the area since 1997.

Fortunately, no more severe weather is in the forecast for the region. However, a coastal storm will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the region for Saturday.
